CSI Hosts Stuttgart University Students
Computers & Structures, Inc. is honored to host the graduate students of Stuttgart University for a special reception at the CSI Berkeley office on October 8, 2010. Thirty civil engineering Master’s Degree students, three Ph.D. students, and several professors—including Professor Christian Miehe, Head of Suttgart University’s Institute of Applied Mechanics—will visit CSI for an inside look at its software development operations and to hear a special presentation by Professors Jack Bouwkamp and Graham Powell on the design of the One Rincon Hill building in San Francisco, a 60-story residential tower standing at 641 feet at the base of the San Francisco Bay Bridge. The tower contains a number of unique structural elements, including a large water tank designed to help the skyscraper withstand strong winds and earthquakes. Professor Powell, Professor Emeritus of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley, served as a consultant on the structural design of One Rincon Hill.
Ed Wilson, Professor Emeritus of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley, will give a talk on the history of structural software development, and Ashraf Habibullah, President & CEO of CSI, will speak on what the future holds for software development at CSI.
